About

Sato Kimono Class was founded in 2010 in San Francisco California by Hiroko Sato. Sato Kimono Class provides kimono dressing lessons, dressing, and consultation about kimonos.

KIMONO, 着物, meant “something you wear” originally. Kimono was everyday clothing in Japan 100 years ago. Imagine how complicated it must have been to wear kimono every day! Despite the complexity, Japanese people have kept this heritage from generation to generation. Why? Kimono is art and has a lot of deep ideas and love throughout the fabric. Through kimono dressing, experience Japanese culture and traditional kimono art, in which you may find a passion for this special tradition.

Hiroko Sato was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She was taught about kimono by her grandmother when she was little. She was dressed in a kimono for each special occasion in Japan. She naturally became a kimono lover. She also loves crafting and sewing. She took courses at an academy, 日本文化着物学院 (http://www.kimono-japan.net) in Tokyo Japan, and got a license as a Kimono instructor and dresser in 2006. Since then, she has worked with kimonos in Japan and the USA.
